- A potent strain of “super toxic” E.Coli has killed 16 people in Europe, and sickened many more. The outbreak started in northern Germany and was originally linked to cucumbers imported from Spain, but the source has yet to be identified. E.Coli causes severe diarrhea and can lead to kidney disease and death quite rapidly. While scientists are working to identify the source of the outbreak, many farmers across Europe have destroyed crops, Russia has banned all produce imports from the E.U., and public concern grows.
