After much anticipation, the newest FDA-approved diet drug has hit stores – Alli. The drug, used in conjunction with a reduced fat diet and exercise program, aids in weight loss by blocking fat. But, just in case you were convinced this is the solution to all your problems – you should carefully read their website and beware of the side effects:
– gas with oily spotting – “In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza.”
– loose stools
– more frequent stools that may be hard to control
And now, my favorite part: “You may feel an urgent need to go to the bathroom. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it’s probably a smart idea to wear dark pants, and bring a change of clothes with you to work.”
Because the drug works by blocking fat, you are not supposed to consume more than 4-5g of fat per meal. But what if you unknowingly exceed that limit? Looks like they should market the drug with Oops, I crapped my pants!
