Due to the rain and our own general laziness, we didn’t really leave the apartment yesterday except to go to lunch, and instead watched HBO and TLC for way too long (speaking of which, have you seen Big Love? good, freaky stuff). I saw a commercial for a new reality show (ugh, another) called “Honey, We’re Killing the KIds!” that attempts to teach families a new, healthy lifestyle:

“Beginning Monday, April 10 9/8c, TLC will transform the lives of 13 families
across the nation in the groundbreaking new series, Honey We’re Killing the Kids! In each family, the children’s eating habits have spiraled out of control into a diet of nonstop junk food – sugar, snacks, processed food– and huge, oversized portions. Coupled with a lack of exercise and sleep, this lifestyle means the kids are not only hyper and unruly, they are at serious risk of
becoming overweight and developing high-blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.”

Then they get reprimanded by a doctor and have 3 weeks to reform, etc etc. I’m not such a fan of reality shows in general, but I might watch this one because, sadly, I think this is the only way to get through to American parents to address childhood obesity as a serious problem (an epidemic, the news calls it now).
